Drinking enough water

Dehydration is not only a problem for the elderly (for whom it can be life thretening) but for all age groups. It not only has a negative efect on the health of young people, but also on the brain function, reducing concentration and memory. A dehydrated body is also more likely to develop a chronic illness.

Dehydration occurs when a person loses more bodily fluid than he or she takes in. How much water does the human body need?

An adult body, with healthy kidneys, requires a daily intake of two litres of fresh water (minimum - rule of thumb: 30mL per Kg bodyweight), and should pass light urine several times a day. This amount of water is particularly important if you are not eating very much fruit and vegetables. Children should drink 1 to 2 litres a day and even infants should be given puer water in favour of any other type of drink. The right time for your glass of water
